2017 URAL Adventure Ride

Posted by on

Just got back from an amazing three-day ride on my Ural sidecar. What an amazing machine it is, every time I get on it, it just gets better. The ride was organized by Ural Australia and included a bit of on-road and a bit of off-road designed to test our machines.

Starting in Glen Innes on Friday with a welcome lunch and a very interesting address at the sight of the Standing Stones by a bloke wearing a dress.  He claimed it was the national dress of Scotland…right!!!!  This was followed up by a fun ride out to the wind farm development in Glen Innes.

Saturday saw us heading for Grafton via the old Grafton Glen Innes road. A fantastic stretch of dirt road meandering through beautiful country along side the Mann and Boyd rivers. Had a bit of a chuckle along the way. I had been told since first talking about buying a Ural, that they are unreliable. I was now on a ride with 25 Urals what could possibly go wrong!! Well the trailer being towed by the support vehicle “did” a wheel bearing and had to be taken back to base!! As for the 25 “unreliable” URAL outfits…not one problem not even a puncture. To date I have not had a problem with my Ural, in fact the only problem I’ve had with it is, I can’t stop riding the damn thing!!

Sunday saw us riding to Dorrigo and on to new Ural HQ in Uralla. If you haven’t been along the Waterfall Way to Dorrigo…GO! It reminds me of the southern highlands, beautiful rolling hills and a curvy, flowing road that’s fun to ride.

What a wonderful weekend way, great bunch of people, great roads and beautiful countryside.  One of the many pleasures of Ural ownership is you don’t/can’t speed, so you get to see a lot more and arrive relaxed. Another very pleasing fact was in our group of 25 outfits, 4 where piloted by girls.  Nice to see the girls getting involved, a really nice change from the usual bunch of ugly old blokes!!!!

CHECKOUT ALL THE PICS BY CLICKING HERE and whilst your at it have a look at URAL Australia’s website, I’ll definitely be back next year.
